Job Description:

Position Summary: The Commodity Trading Accountant will work within the Trade Accounting team to consolidate, analyze, and report the monthly gross profit as well as perform various accounting and analytical duties to ensure accurate reporting and compliance of controls. The individual will work closely with traders, trading assistants as well as Risk and Distribution teams. This role allows the individual to gain a broad understanding of and experience the unique business of commodity trading. The individual should have the desire and drive and possess the commitment to excel and grow within the organization. Responsibilities: Monthly reconciliation of Risk/Trading system profit and loss to general ledger. Performs analysis to ensure accuracy of gross margin. Prepares and books journal entries impacting the gross margin. Identifies and reconciles discrepancies that impact the gross margin. Prepares and allocates cost of cash usage by dept/portfolio. Analyzes, ensures accuracy, and prepares reconciliation of trade accruals, inventory and other accounts. Assist in the monthly preparation of ASC 815/820 schedules. Understands and reports profit and loss and mark to market attributes and movements. Validates market valuation. Monitors and ensures compliance of control policies and procedures. Assists in the annual external audit. Fields and responds to inquiries from management, traders, and external auditors. Special projects as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Accounting preferred 2 - 3 years of accounting experience preferably in the commodity industry. Knowledge of and experience with derivative accounting a plus. Strong proficiency with Excel. Strong analytic and problem solving skills. Extremely accurate, detail oriented, and organized. Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a fast paced environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Available to work extended hours as necessary.
