REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction K-12

EFFECTIVE: August 29, 2016


* Connecticut teaching certificate: Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts, 1-12 (endorsement #102)

* Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience

* Experience with Special Education students (preferred)

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Common Core State Standards

* Excellent communication skills, clarity of instruction, data-based decision making and teamwork skills and expertise in differentiated instruction


* Meets and consults with members of Special Education and Student Services (SESS) teams on individual cases as requested or necessary

* Provides diagnostic, prescriptive and evaluative services as directed

* Provides individual and small group instruction for identified students

* Models lessons as appropriate

* Collaborates with regular education and special education teachers to plan instruction and provide interventions for students within the classroom setting

* Plans and presents school and district-wide Professional Development

* Serves as a resource person for general education teachers, counselors, special education teachers, and related services providers regarding all aspects of reading, including student performance and evaluation

* Such other related duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Agreement between the Darien Board of Education and Darien Education Association
