Under the direction of the Competitive Swimming Director, the Head 8/Under Coach oversees and directs the development of the 8/Under program group (Pride). This includes maintaining a high level of communication with fellow coaches and swim team parents, planning and running daily practices, the planning of, as well as attending, events (team pride building) coordinating the swim meet schedule for the above mentioned groups and submitting swim meet entries in a timely manner. The Head 8/Under Coach must be able to answer questions pertaining to all levels of the swim team and areas of the YMCA, structure and oversee the operation of 8/Under home meets.
Previous competitive coaching experience/participation is strongly recommended, as well as strong organizational administrative, and computer skills. Knowledge of either Hy-Tek or LSA software is preferred. Certifications in the following safety areas: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training or Safety Training for the Swim Coach, and First Aid. Other certifications: YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving and USA Swimming Foundations of Coaching. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
? Organize, plan and run daily practices for the Pride group. ? Attend coaches meetings. ? Report to the Competitive Swimming Director on matters relating to the 8/Under Team levels. (i.e. team development, swimmer behavior, assistant 8/Under Coaches, practice schedules, etc.). ? Schedule and attend all pride Group Parent meetings. ? Attend all meets scheduled for the 8/Under Teams, as well as meets assigned by the Competitive Swimming Director. ? Reply to phone messages and e-mails in a timely manner (next day or ASAP). ? Keep all required certifications up to date (CPR, Coaches Safety Training, and First Aid). ? Continue personal education related to the sport of swimming. ? Attend at least one professional coaching clinic a year, or complete a home school course. ? Perform other duties as designated by the supervisor. (i.e. meet setup and clean up) ?
