**Job Description**

Westat is currently seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to collect data for the National Food Study-Pilot (NFS). The NFS will identify an alternative data collection method (ADCM) that collects more accurate data on the prices and quantities of all food items acquired from all members of sampled households over a 7-day period. The main objective of the pilot test is to develop and test an alternative method for collecting improved data on the foods acquired by American households, such as food item descriptions, quantities and prices, where the food is acquired, and the form(s) of tender used.

The primary role of the NFS field interviewers will be to locate, obtain cooperation from, and screen and interview selected respondents in their homes, as well as train respondents how to use smartphones, tablets or laptops, and Wi-Fi devices to collect data.

**Basic Qualifications**

?? At least 18 years old

?? Available to attend a 4- to 5-day, in-person training in November or early December in Rockville, MD

?? Available to complete Web-based data collector training in November prior to in-person training

**Minimum Requirements**

?? Experience using a smartphone and/or tablet, with skills including connecting to Wi-Fi and using/sending email on a mobile device.

?? Live in the geographic work area defined by the project sample.

?? Available to work the field data collection period from November 2016-March 2017.

?? Available to work 25-30 hours per week during weekdays, with weekend and evenings hours for conducting household interviews.

?? Willing to travel locally for project work.

?? Able to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations:

o Lift and carry 15 pounds of equipment and materials;

o stand for up to 2 hours at a time; and

o climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment.

?? Regular and reliable access to an insured vehicle.

?? Valid (current) driver's license that is not under suspension.

?? Detail oriented and able to multi-task.

?? Strong communication and computer skills.

**Preferred Criteria**

?? Household survey data collection experience.

?? Experience using smartphones, tablets/laptops, and Wi-Fi devices to collect survey data.

?? Experience demonstrating use of smartphones, laptop/tablets, and Wi-Fi devices to collect survey data.

?? Available to travel for out-of-town trips lasting up to several days at a time.

?? Have the ability to work independently.

This is a variable hour non-exempt position, eligible for overtime pay. This position is not initially eligible for benefits. The rate for this position is a base rate.
