Chemist / VOA Analyst

York Analytical Laboratories is currently seeking an experienced Chemist / VOA Analyst to join our team in Stratford, CT.

Job Summary:

The Chemist / VOA Analyst prepares, screens, analyzes and reports Volatiles data from client samples and QC samples using specific procedures in accordance with York Analytical's Quality Management System and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Data are reviewed using appropriate software and are uploaded into the Element Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for a subsequent generation (by others) of technical reports and supporting documentation for delivery to clients. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Screening, Preparing and Analyzing samples according to client regulatory requirements in accordance with company SOPs
  • Preparing and logging appropriate reference standard solutions and chemical reagents
  • Properly and thoroughly document sample preparation specifics
  • Calibrating, operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation
  • Maintain instrument maintenance logbooks (electronic and hand written)
  • Review of generated data for accuracy and compliance with SOP delineated QA guidelines
  • Respond to data inquiries/challenges presented by Client Services or QA staff
  • Upload calibrations, sequences, data and quantitation reports into LIMS for subsequent reporting to client (by others)
  • Submission of raw data as necessary for generation of data packages
  • Adherence to all Safety and Quality Assurance requirements
  • Assist in assurance of proper inventory of instrument maintenance supplies and other chemicals and supplies
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards
  • Work required hours to meet client expectations for turnaround and data quality
  • Other tasks as defined by Laboratory Management


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related science
  • 2+ years experience analyzing environmental samples for volatile organic contaminants

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general laboratory procedures
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and chemical hazards
  • Ability to operate and calibrate laboratory instrumentation
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented and a team-player
  • Mathematics aptitude
